My music on my laptop is in "slow mo"?

Im using windows media player to listen to music and its going in slow motion and sounds as if it is buffering, also when Im closing a chrome page it doesnt just disappear straight away- it goes away in slow mo too- the laptop is brand new and everything was working fine yesterday- my internet protection etc is up to date (using kasperky internet security) anyone know whats going on?! thank you for any and all help! ;)
